O’Donnell made a motion to accept the reports as delivered. Moody seconded said motion.
Motion carried.
Correspondence: S. Klumb made it known she was not happy about being billed by the Town
for the costs the Town incurred from her stray dog. These fees were in addition to having to
pay the SWCHS to get her aged dog back.
Clerk received a letter from the Wood County Treasurer informing the Town that the County
now owns parcel 13-00672I through a tax deed.
Chairman attended a meeting in Microsoft Teams on bridge projects. The engineering involved
was explained in more detail.
It was mentioned that all of the Town’s updated ordinances should be on the Town website.
Highway Superintendent Report:
The tractor needs new tires badly. The left rear rim may need replacing if it cannot be fixed. It
has a crack that is allowing the fluid inside of the tire to leak out and there is no way to control
it. The Highway Superintendent has been in touch with the Wood County Highway Department
regarding this. The crew has fallen behind on mowing because of these tire issues. The crew
will be focusing on another round of patching. Wilhorn Road, Kimball Avenue, and Creamery
Road are in rough shape.
New Business:
Fire Calls: The Clerk received a fire call report from the Nekoosa Fire Department regarding a
one vehicle car accident. Based off of the report, the Board felt the driver should be billed for
$500 as allowed by the Town’s fire call ordinance.
Bridge Resolution: The Clerk presented the Board with a Resolution that had been tailored to
the Township and sent to the Town by Wood County Highway Commissioner. This resolution
will allow the Wood County Highway Department to take the lead on the repair of the County
Line bridge. O’Donnell made a motion to approve the Resolution and Moody seconded the
motion. All were in favor and the motion carried. The parties present signed the Resolution and
the Clerk will send a copy to the Commissioner.
Tractor Tires: As the Board was informed through the Highway Superintendent’s report, the
tires on the tractor need replacing as soon as possible. The Chairman got an estimate from the
place the Town purchased the grader tires at of $4,500. Schierl Tires gave two estimates
(depending on which type of tire the Town decides to go with) of $4,776.70 and $4,560.70. An
estimate from the Highway Department at Wood County has not yet been received. Those
estimates include installation. Due to the urgency of their replacement, O’Donnell made a
motion to spend up to $4,800 on new tires for the tractor. Moody seconded the motion and the
motion carried.
Utility Permit: Drew Parker from Burns McDonnell submitted a utility permit application on
behalf of Alliant Energy Corporation for the installation of fiber optics along several Town
roads. His application included approximately 120 pages of maps and information. According
to the new updated Town permit application, the application fee came to $1,070. O’Donnell
made a motion to approve the utility permit for Alliant Energy. Moody seconded said motion.
Motion carried with all in favor.
3
Plank Hill Lane: The County Highway Department should be paving the road soon. They ran
into an unexpected setback when their paver kept sinking in on the sides of the road. This
resulted in the County having to dig out the sides of the road and fill them with gravel in order
to stabilize them.
Old Business:
Highway Shop: Estimates for insulating the highway shop were gathered. To have insulation
blown in will cost $4,000 and to have rolled insulation put up will run $4,500. Comfort Aire gave
an estimate of $4,900 on a new furnace for the shop. Additional furnace quotes are expected
to be coming in.
Plank Hill Closure Update: Wood County will be holding a public informational meeting on
August 20th, 2024, from 5p.m. to 7p.m. at the Nekoosa Community Center. County Highway
AA will probably be closed throughout the upcoming winter months.
Public input:
One resident would like to see the Town get an estimate for the installation of an additional
garage door in the highway shop. Heating the whole shop is unnecessary and will get
expensive if we have a normal winter.
Next Scheduled Board Meeting: The next regularly scheduled Town Board Meeting is set for
Monday, September 9th, 2024. The regular monthly Town board meeting will be conducted at
the Port Edwards Town Hall.
Adjourn: Being no other business to conduct, O’Donnell made a motion to adjourn the
meeting at 7:31p.m. and Moody seconded. All were in favor and the motion carried.
Respectfully submitted,
Michelle Sorenson, Clerk
