Town of Christiana Smart Growth Committee Meeting — Minutes

Town of Christiana Smart Growth Committee Minutes Meeting Date: April 27, 2026 Location: Christiana Town Hall Call to Order Committee Chair Dawn Redford began the meeting at 7:03 p.m. Other committee members in attendance included Trent Bettenhausen, Tom Jelinek, and Catherine Gottsacker. David Smithback and Lisa Juday were absent. Majid Allen also attended. Confirmation of Meeting Posting Notice of the meeting was properly posted at the Town Hall door and on the Town of Christiana website. Public Comment None Approval of Minutes A motion to approve the March minutes was made by Tom Jelinek and seconded by Dawn Redford. All were in favor of approval. Town of Christiana Comprehensive Plan Survey Update Survey Update A promotional poster will remain on display at the Town Hall. Initial mailing errors were corrected with a second mailing on April 17th. With 74 respondents to date, more responses are wanted. Non Land Use Chapters Majid offered suggestions about updating content, data charts and maps. Ideas discussed: addressing controversial topics, including what is important to town residents, showing the location of solar arrays, and adding a history of the town. Goals for editing the copy included being consistent with spelling, references to roads, explanations of acronyms; updating and adding page numbers to maps; and revising as needed so the copy is clear and easy to read. We also discussed ideas for how to edit the text in Adobe InDesign or Microsoft Word files. Majid will comment on how our writing comes across and verify that our plan is complete, explaining the rationale for the direction taken in the Comprehensive Plan. May Meeting Postponed The next Smart Growth Committee meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on June 1, 2026, to review survey results, continue discussing land use topics and other ideas relevant to this revision. Adjournment A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Dawn Redford, seconded by Trent Bettenhausen, and unanimously agreed to by all. The meeting adjourned around 8:15 p.m.
