a. none
4. Review 2025 prairie activities.
a. Burn (none)
b. Weed control – invasive cattail and reed canary were treated. Dave only saw and
removed a few teasel, parsnip, sweet clover. Purple loosestrife coming in.
Galacerna beetles are a potential way to control (might need to have enough
plants to support a population). Talk to Shawn Esser about it – he has them. Cut
areas of cattail some are resprouting, so will need more treatment next year. Lots
of good insect noise observed by David, lots of birds also. Not many seeds of
some particular plants this year, so probably a good thing we did not have to
collect for rejected conversion of playing field.
c. Kestrel box – nothing but starlings for these first 2 years (2024-2025). Have one
more year and if no kestrels, David will move it.
5. Future 2026 activities: discussion/action.
a. Prevention of barn swallow nesting in park shelter
i. Motion Molling/Bayer: spend no more than $1000 for some sort of netting
for underside of shelter. Motion carried. Vote 4-0.
b. Kestrel box – 2026 will be one more attempt.
c. Seed purchase/application for weed control areas. Ask Craig Annen if we should
plant those kill areas with prairie seed or if it’s going to be wetland. Christine will
contact him.
d. Weed control. Reed Canary grass, purple loosestrife. David wants to know how
Craig would proceed to control reed canary and loosestrife. Christine will ask
him. Hand pulling a strategy for loosestrife?
e. Burn planning. Try again for spring 2026. (Last one was spring 2024). David will
ask Jim Parry and Denny Connor again.
6. Recommendations for 2026 budget.
a. Motion Molling/Crittenden: recommend to board same amount as last year
($3500) for 2026 Park Budget. Motion carried. Vote 4-0.
