MEMORANDUM PARKS, RECREATION & FORESTRY Date: June 8, 2026 To: Parks & Recreation Board From: Eric Boettcher, PRF Director Re: June Meeting Agenda Items Here is a brief intro of this month’s agenda items: • Memorial Bench Location for Parkview/Nature Hills Intermidiate School Students and faculty from Nature Hills Intermediate School are self-funding a student memorial featuring a bench and trees, which is planned for one of two designated spots in the Parkview Parkway green space. By placing the memorial in this green space—which borders the school campus's nature trail—the project can remain close to the school while working within district guidelines for school-property displays. The project will be a great enhancement that falls under the parks department's established memorial bench program. Board will discuss and provide a recommendation for staff to move forward. • Hickorywoods Farms Neighborhood Park Request The Parks Department has received a formal request from the residents of the Hickorywood Farms Neighborhood seeking an expansion of their existing neighborhood park. The neighborhood development is nearing completion, with Phase 3 residential homes scheduled to be finalized by the end of 2026. The neighborhood park was established during the initial phases of the development and has been upgraded sequentially: • 2019: Installation of the initial playground structure. • 2023: Addition of a half-court configured for basketball and pickleball. • 2026 (Scheduled): Construction of an open-air shelter structure, which will successfully complete the initial master plan for this park. As illustrated in the attached map, the Hickorywood Farms neighborhood is already heavily integrated with municipal green space. The residential area is bordered by a substantial amount of city-owned parkland, which includes the centralized neighborhood park itself and surrounding natural areas that provide environmental buffers and passive recreation. The formal request detailing the specific expansion desires of the Hickorywood Farms residents is attached for your review. Staff requests that the Park Board review the attached resident proposal, review and discuss the request, and provide a formal recommendation on how department staff should proceed. I am writing on behalf of multiple families in our neighborhood to formally request consideration for expanding the existing neighborhood park. Our neighborhood has recently grown, including a new phase with about 37 homes. More than half of these households have at least one or two children. In addition, the nearby Morgan Station subdivision also utilizes this park and includes approximately 47 lots, further increasing usage. As a result, the park is frequently crowded, with children of varying ages sharing a limited play space. The park appears to have been originally designed to serve a smaller number of homes, and the current layout no longer meets the needs of the growing number of families in the area. An expansion of the park would provide: • Increased safe play space for children • Reduced overcrowding during peak times • Additional playground equipment to better accommodate children of different ages • Opportunities for features such as shade structures, seating, and open green space • Improved functionality for families across both neighborhoods I respectfully ask that this request be considered for review by city administration and the park board. I would be happy to help gather additional community input or support this effort if helpful. I have added photos and two video links some neighbors have gathered. https://share.icloud.com/photos/07csko4nheL5qvpoudYNVeM8Q https://share.icloud.com/photos/0b6SAD4TOWtbcKvhfzhYe5gjA Thank you for your time and consideration. Froemming Community Center Report – April & May 2026 April and May were busy months at the Oconomowoc Community Center, with a range of civic, organizational, and private events taking place. One of the most significant highlights was hosting the Mayoral Election on April 7. In addition, several municipal and regional meetings were held, including the Streets Public Information Meeting for the Department of Public Works and a planning session for the 9/11 anniversary memorial. We also hosted various organizational and leadership meetings throughout the month. These included the Oconomowoc Area Grant Foundation, the Chamber Orchestra, La Crosse Club, Kwik Trip, Lake Area Management District and a Senior Center Leadership Meeting. The Chamber Breakfast was a great success on May 21. These events brought together community leaders, employees, and volunteers to work together and build stronger local partnerships. The consistent use of the Community Center for these meetings shows how useful and flexible it is as a professional space. April and May are the busiest months for celebrations. Couples tend to marry in the summer or fall so spring is the perfect time for a shower. We hosted eight bridal showers and six baby showers, providing a welcoming and flexible space for families and friends to gather.
