Community Sensitive Design (CSD) design funding can be used for minor aesthetic improvements. Hafner explained where these would normally be seen. The Common Council and Public Works Committee have been considering functionality. Sidewalks were considered, a multiuse path was preferred. Bicycle paths will be in the road. Public Works Committee Chair Jashinsky was a bridge engineer with the DOT and provided invaluable input. The rendering presented was summarized. The railing is standard and will not require additional funds or required maintenance. The form liner finish of the stonelike pattern with stain is recommended. The form liner finish on both sides of both parapet wall including staining and the logo with the three sailboats are the CSD items that are being recommended this design will exceed the CSD amount by about $30,000. Marek noted it is simplistic and good looking. Hausman agreed. Hausman asked if communities of this size normally have the ability to make these decisions. Hafner noted it is just dependent upon the municipality of the location of the bridge. Schult noted the Oconomowoc bridge looks nice. Schult asked about cost for delivery. Hafner clarified this is the planning and design term. Schult asked if the logo would be the same metal. Hafner would have to confirm. Schult asked about the location this would be on the outside of the fence. Donavan asked if there was a railing on both sides. Donavan noted she thought the design was nice. Aicher added that the Public Works Committee weighed in against the DOT recommendation of a large barrier wall. Aicher noted this does not look good, and this was a good recommendation. Hausman added there is not much foot traffic. Aicher noted not currently but this does create a point to start to connect to Lapham Peak. Schult noted this is not currently a safe bridge to cross. She is looking forward to the improvement, but there is concern about the access to downtown. Motion by Marek, seconded by Donavan, to recommend Council approve the bridge design, as presented.
