January 2014 Minutes

Westboro Public Library Board Meeting --- January 14, 2014 1. Meeting was called to order at 6:01 P.M. by Vice President Ed Schlosser. 2. Roll Call – Trustees present Ed Schlosser, Marlene Rymer, Debra Koehler, Nancy Wiitala. Trustee absent was President Gene Lucia. Also present , Library Director Candice Celestina- Smith. 3. Secretary Marlene Rymer resigned. Wiitala stated that she would be willing to take the secretary position. 4. Rymer motioned to appoint Wiitala to secretary position. Koehler seconded. Motion carried. 4-0 voice vote. 5. Motion to approve the order of agenda was made by Rymer, second by Koehler. Motion carried by voice vote 4-0 6. Amended minutes of November 12, 2013 meeting were read. Motion to accept minutes as amended made by Rymer, second by Koehler. Motion carried. 4-0 voice vote. 7. Motion to accept minutes of December 18, 2013 meeting was made by Rymer, second by Koehler. Motion carried 4-0 voice vote. 8. Motion to accept treasurer’s report as given was made by Rymer, second by Koehler. Motion carried. Voice vote 4-0 9. Motion to accept and pay bills as submitted was made by Koehler, second by Rymer. Motion carried. Voice vote 4-0 10. Directors report. December circulation was at 503. The yearly circulation was 9,335. The Plum Creek grant of $2,125.00 was received. Westboro Library had asked for $3,760.00 for 4 computers and screens. Discussion will be held at future meeting to figure out how to pay for the difference. 11. Rymer stated that she had spoken with Marla from WVLS and that she was told that it is not illegal to have more than 1 person from same family on board. Director Smith commented that Marla had also stated to her that it is not good practice. 12. Director Smith reported that she would be doing a required continuing education class “Basic Collection” on line. She also requested to attend WVLS “Basic Cataloging” in Wausau on Thursday February 13. Motion to allow Director Smith to attend was made by Rymer, second by Koehler. Motion carried. Voice vote 4-0 13. Short discussion of 2014 budget was held. We will have a ‘hard copy’ of the budget at the February meeting for further discussion if needed. 14. No Public input. 15. Discussion of the WVLS Trustee Essential Training:Chapter 3 Bylaw-Organizing the Board for Effective Action. Director Smith stated that Westboro By-laws need to be updated and that the Policy portion needs to be separate from the by-laws. Director Smith asked that trustees review updated bylaws at the next meeting. 16. The February meeting was set for Tuesday February 11 2014 at 6:00 PM. 17.
