5. MIDDLETON FIRE OPERATIONAL REPORT FROM CHIEF HARRIS
Middleton Fire District stands ready to continue joint responses with other local area fire services and is
positioning itself to take on larger areas of service coverage as neighboring Fire Districts undergo membership
changes and reductions. Middleton Fire District uses four Rapid Response Vehicles strategically positioned
throughout the District to provide faster responses and hopes to purchase an additional unit and locate in
Springfield in the future. The District has six full-time fire fighters that take on additional administrative,
operational and investigative functions, and over 100 volunteers, with an upcoming class of 30 applicant
volunteers.

Don Hoffman was permitted to address the Board after Public Comment due to a late arrival. Mr. Hoffman is
extremely disappointed with the short amount of time between receiving notice of Open Book and when Open
Book was held. There was not enough turn around time for residents to research and contest the updated
assessment figures. There were a number of reports of voice messages that did not get returned. Chairman
Laufenberg will reach out to Associated Appraisal with the concerns.
b. 2025 ROAD PROJECTS
c. 5155 SUNRISESET RIDGE TRAIL ZONING VIOLATION INSPECTION AND REPORT
Property owner and resident Alex Tanke appeared at the meeting and reported there have been no business
sales this year, the business address will be updated to his other non-residential property, won’t grow foods for
sale on the residential zoned parcel, and the chicken coop will be relocated to comply with Town zoning.
The Town Board does not want to start policing people’s yards, but understand the aesthetics of the property
as viewed from the road impacts neighbors’ properties. Mr. Tanke worked with Sup. Meinholz and a Sunrise
Ridge neighbor to draw up a landscaping/mowing plan for the front yard that is more suitable to a residential
neighborhood than current landscaping practices are. Mr. Tanke will mow and shape and maintain the front
yard and remove any noxious weeds.
7. Purchase offer for 2012 Western Star snowplow
Motion by Sup. Meinholz, seconded by Sup. Jankowski to accept a bid of $45,500 or more for the 2013
Western Star snow plow and wing. Motion carried, 4-0.
8. COMMITTEE REPORTS
Supervisor IV: Middleton Fire had approximately 1,000 attendees at their open house.
Supervisor III:
Supervisor II:
Supervisor I:
Chairperson: Waunakee reports they would like to stay in the District, but want four voting members on the
District Board to reflect their greater portion of the District’s utilization and budget and give them the ability to
override the three Towns’ votes if they vote together. The attorney the District would like to hire during the
District membership change as Waunakee exits will require Waunakee waive a conflict of interest so he can
represent the District, which they are unlikely to do. The Village of Cross Plains president has indicated he
wouldn’t object to the Village remaining in the Cross-Plains Area EMS District if the EMS District adopted some
administrative changes.
