Town of Rutland Collection Center Meeting Minutes May 22, 2025 1:00 p.m. 1. Call to Order and roll call. Present were Chairman Norm Arendt, Supervisor Jim Dorn. 2. Also present was Chester Ace (late), Terry Lubcke, Steve Williamson 3. Minutes of the April 24, 2025 which were previously informally approved were approved as submitted. 4. Steve Williams provide a list of items that they receive at the collection center as gifts which included baked goods, soup, donuts, work gloves, hand warmers, sweatshirts, gift cards, donations for milk bones, gift bags, popcorn, shredded paper for poultry and coffee. Committee sees nothing wrong with the attendants receiving these as gifts. Steve also raised the issue of residents that bring metal objects, power tools, old wiring, and car batteries for Steve to personally recycle. The committee informed Steve that we have addressed this issue previously. IF residents bring the items to the collection center the attendant can not accept them for personally recycling. The resident must pay the fee and place items in the appropriate bin. If the resident wishes to have Steve recycle the items the resident must take the items to Steve’s house and place on his trailer at that location. Steve was informed that all minutes are available to the Board and if they want to change this procedure, they as a Board, have that option. 5. Terry Lubcke addressed the committee with several issues that he sees at the collection center. One issue is how the issue above has split friendships between people. He sees this as not healthy for the individuals involved. It is up to the individuals to solve this. His second item is that the issue of what can be accepted by the attendants should be in writing. The items are addressed above and the minutes reflect the decision of the committee. The third issue he raised is the overall issue of recycling and the environment. We place in the trash a lot of items that are useful and there should be a way such as a flea market, for residents to sell or giveaway items that still have some useful life left. The committee discussed how this could work but that many volunteers are needed to operate a flea market and that is an issue. 6. Steve questioned why we are charging for compost when the location that the road crew takes it to does not charge us for disposal. Currently we charge $10 approximately per small trailer or equivalent at the discretion of the attendant. Jim Dorn stated that if we are charged in the future for disposal, we may look at increasing the fee to cover all costs. There is a cost to the Township for disposal of the compostable material using Town road crew and Town trucks for hauling it to the disposal site. 7. Committee meeting adjourned at 1:51 p.m. 8. Next meeting will be at June 23, 2025 at 2 p.m.. Respectfully submitted Norm Arendt, Committee Chair
