Town of Rutland Collection Center Meeting Minutes April 24, 2025 3:30 p.m. 1. Call to Order and roll call. Present were Chairman Norm Arendt, Supervisor Jim Dorn. 2. Also present was Town Chair Kent Knutson, Chester Ace 3. Minutes of the January 22, 2025 which were previously informally approved were approved as submitted. 4. Operation of the Collection Center was discussed. From employee standpoint everything is working fine. Tires if clean are put in the shed at the Collection Center or in the Quonset hut at the Town Hall. The road crew will dispose of at Dane County when they have a load. The old tire pile on the hill will be removed as time permits this coming summer. The steps that Dave Mikkelson constructed at the trailer look very good. Will build a canopy over the door sometime this year. The tires that were dumped on the DNR were discussed and Chester will contact the DNR for disposal. 5. Signs for “Closed Today” and “Free Logs” will be used as needed. Idea with the free logs is to open disposal up to residents that want them. A form will be developed that residents sign before receiving any of the logs. If no one wants them the crew will haul them away. 6. Discussed the disposal of the refrigerators and other appliances with coils. If coils are intact Alter will take them. Committee discussed both All Metals and Alter Metals list of what they accept and what they do not accept. At the current time the committee decided to just collect what we currently do in the metal bucket. 7. The Town of Oregon has updated what it charges for fees for disposal and compared to the Town of Rutland, Rutland residents pay less. The committee will look at the fees charged some time in the future. Brooklyn, Oregon and Union have cameras at their collection centers. It was decided to not pursue this at this time. 8. The grant papers have been prepared by Dawn and she is just waiting for the collection center totals from GFL before she can submit to the DNR. 9. Richard and Susan have a vacation coming up. Steve and Greg will cover Saturdays while they are gone. 10. Chairman Knutson brought up electronic payment options but there is no WIFI or way to hook up a system for this. Plus the cost that is charged 3%-5% for the service per transaction is considered excessive. Security of system and Collection Center would then be a concern as well. 11. Well testing at the landfill side has been completed. We are waiting on the results. 12. Committee meeting adjourned at 4:04 p.m. 13. Next meeting will be at the call of the chair. Respectfully submitted Norm Arendt, Committee Chair
