Report from Committee to Review the Comprehensive Plan
July 2, 2026
On June 4, 2026, following circulation and return of the of the Community Survey, a community engagement meeting was held. The Community Survey was circulated by mailing to all addresses in the Town of Montrose in March, and emphasized at the polls on April 7, 2026, by establishing a table to collect surveys and offer them to any who wanted to participate. Surveys were to be returned by May 1. Following the Committee’s May 7, 2026 meeting to analyze the results of the Community Survey, a Community Engagement meeting was scheduled for June 4, 2026. Postcards were mailed to all addresses in Montrose in advance of the meeting. Eighty-nine people signed in at the meeting.
Jason Valerius, Capital Area Regional Planning Commission, started the meeting with a brief overview of the comprehensive planning process and our four key areas of interest for the day: rural character, accessory dwelling units, transfer and purchase of development rights and hamlet infrastructure. Each area of interest included a brief opportunity for questions and answers. Jason's slides are available on the town website for anyone interested in viewing them.
Then, all community members were split into four groups to discuss the four key areas of interest: rural character, accessory dwelling units, transfer and purchase of development rights and hamlet infrastructure. Each group had a change to weigh in on discussion questions on each topic. The discussion question handouts are available on the town website.
The meeting adjourned with a brief report out on next steps in the comprehensive planning process.
