Minutes

The Berlin Public Library Board of Trustees met in the Kay Swan Room on January 14, 2026. The meeting was called to order by President Kay Roethel at 4:34 pm. In attendance were Trustees Blazel, Draves, Malchetske, Rainboth. Trustees Guertler and Durtschi were excused. Also in attendance was Library Director Chris Kalupa. Public present: None. Moved by Rainboth, seconded by Malchetske to approve the minutes of the December 10, 2025 meeting. Passed. Moved by Malchetske, seconded by Blazel to accept the monthly bills for December. Passed. Moved by Rainboth, seconded by Blazel to accept the Treasurer’s report for December. Passed. Library Director’s Report: complete copy attached to official minutes. Moved by Rainboth, seconded by Malchetske to remove the Policy Committee action from the table for possible action. Passed. Moved by Malchetske, seconded by Rainboth to have the Policy Committee meet and provide an update at our next meeting. Passed. Long Range Plan Review. The plan was reviewed and no changes will be made. Friends of the Library report was not made due to there being no meeting last month. Carnegie Library Grant. Chris talked to the City about using the funds from the grant for repairs to the physical structure of the Carnegie Library. Scott from the City thought this was a good idea. Chris will work with the City to investigate what repairs should be addressed with the funds. Business for future agenda: WCTS painting and plaster work, carpeting update, Policy Committee report, Carnegie Library grant, CD renewal.
