Minutes of Town Board Meeting – November 11, 2024 Chairperson Klimek called the meeting of the Town Board of the Town of Schley to order on November 11, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. at the Schley Town Hall. Pledge of Allegiance Roll Call – Klimek, Brown, Leopold, Dallman, and Podeweltz. Verification of posting meeting notices by Town Board. Brown motioned to approve the minutes from the 10/14/2024 Town Board meeting, 2nd by Leopold. All ayes. Motion carried. Brown motioned to approve the minutes from the 10/30/2024 Town Board budget workshop meeting, 2nd by Leopold. All ayes. Motion carried. Brown motioned to accept the treasurer’s report, 2nd by Klimek. All ayes. Motion carried. Reports from Town Officers: Leopold said that this will be the last meeting in the old town hall. Demolition of the old town hall will take place before the December town meeting. Klimek stated that Brandt Fire will be doing the fire extinguisher inspection tomorrow. The extinguishers will be transferred to the new town hall. A tree on Sunrise Road will cut up this week. Pothole repair will be done on Augies Road by County Road X. Gravel will be placed by the culvert on Mosser Road. Public Comment: None. Brown motioned to pay bills and transfer $21,200 for general bills from the money market to checking; $44,016.19 and $4360 from the building fund to checking, 2nd by Leopold. All ayes. Motion carried. The Town budget meeting will be on November 20 at 6:00 p.m. The 2025 recycling schedule was reviewed. Brown will contact Jason Macomber to get a potential date for 2025 Spring clean-up, potentially on May 10 or 31. Town Board reviewed the draft newsletter to be included in with the tax bills. Planning Commission: Strand Land Use # L-24-261 – Nathan and Leah Strand to construct a 40’ x 64’ storage building and a 16’ x 16’ shed on 15 acres at W1144 County Road X, Gleason. Motion by Leopold, 2nd by Klimek to approve the land use application. Roll call vote. All ayes. Motion carried. Welker provided broadband updates. A sample letter of support for the application of the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) grant program was explained and reviewed. Space Mobile is building a global broadband network in space to operate directly with mobile devises. Amazon’s Project Kuiper, which uses optical inter-satellite link technology to connect satellites in a mesh network to blanket the Earth. The FCC has set aside up to $9 billion in the 5G Fund for Rural America to support the deployment of 5G mobile services in rural areas. Next meetings: November 20, 2024 at 6:00 p.m.- annual budget meeting; December 9, 2024 at 6:00 p.m.-monthly Town Board meeting with holiday festivities after (attendees can bring food or drink) Next month’s Agenda items: Approval of 2025 election workers; 2025 Spring clean-up There being no further business, motion to adjourn by Leopold, 2nd by Brown.
