CITY OF GILLETT PARKS AND CEMETERY COMMITTEE Council Chambers – Municipal Building 150 N McKenzie Ave – Gillett, WI 54124 TUESDAY, JULY 28, 2026 AT 6:00 PM MINUTES Committee may deviate from the agenda as needed Chairperson Luther called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM. Discussion and Possible Action on Park Improvements, locations, or questions – The question was asked the playground equipment will be put in, the actual play equipment will be placed after fair. The fair board was under the understanding that we were not going to start our project until after the fair. We did start groundbreaking, stripping and utilities (water and sewer) because we had to start before July 1, which was written in our Community Development Block Grant contract. If we were to miss our contract dates, we could list losing our 1-million-dollar grant. Fair asked for no parking on Richmond the week of and before the fair, it becomes extremely congested in that area and makes for dangerous driving and walking conditions; fair and Police Department will meet on this topic. The Fair Board was assured that all equipment will be moved from parking lot in Zippel Park during fair from our construction crew. Talked about removing two trees from Honey Park to make the turn easier for semi and large trailers during the fair, we ask that they speak with our Public Works Foreman and plant a new tree for however many are removed. Will ask our engineers at MSA about the stakes in the ground marking the project, with this many people coming to the Fair, it’s inevitable that they will be moved or taken. Our grant requires a Volleyball Court to be installed. We talked about locations and agreed right next to the playground would be best. It will be a grass court with removable poles and net. The poles will have a sleeve in the ground with a cover and can be driven over once removed. The Council and Fair Board spoke about upcoming projects/ideas/issues. We are building a new Cold Storage building on our Fire Department property, the current building by Honey Park will be demolished. With the purchase of the new Utility office/garage we also have no use for the utility garage behind the old cold storage building, we also plan to demolish. Once the new playground is complete, we would like to move the old play equipment to Honey and Seneca Park. The Fair Board asked us to make a map of where it will be placed and will take it to a meeting to be approved. New bathroom will also be installed by the new playground and we can have a discussion at a later time what to do with the old bathroom facility. 3. Set Next Meeting Date: To Be Determined 4. Adjournment at 7:55 PM. MOTION: VanStraten/Luther Motion to adjourn. Voice Vote: All Ayes MOTION CARRIED Respectfully Submitted Clerk Treasurer Chelsea Anderson
