July 9, 2025 Town of Dewey Board Meeting Note: These are the proposed Minutes that will be approved at the next Board meeting. ___________________________________________________________________________ Minutes Wednesday, July 9, 2025 430 Dewey Drive-Stevens Point WI 54482 Verify Open Meeting Notice & Roll Call: The open meeting notice was verified. Chairman Maurice King, Supervisor LeRoy Pukrop, Supervisor Dennis Meis, Clerk Angela Lochinger, and Treasurer Lori Kolodziej were present. 1 town resident and/or visitor was present. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Chairman King at 6:30 pm. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Approval of Minutes from the meeting of June 18, 2025: Supervisor Pukrop motioned to approve the minutes of June 18, 2025, as presented. Supervisor Meis seconded. The motion passed 3-0. Citizens wishing to address the Town Board: Doug Evica discussed a wash out area and grading on Oakwood Drive. Supervisor Comments/Concerns: Supervisor Meis discussed multiple inoperable vehicles and excess solid waste at a property on County Road Y. Supervisor Pukrop brought up spraying weeds around town bridges and posts after a town employee got poison ivy while clearing them. He also asked when Torun Road would be paved. Chairman King said it was planned for early July, but he is still waiting for an update. Discussion/Action on the appointment of a Court Officer for the processing of Ordinance violations: Chairman King explained that the Portage County Clerk of Courts recommended the town designate a person to appear in court and present cases related to ordinance violations. Supervisor Meis motioned to appoint Chairman King as Court Officer for the processing of Ordinance violations. Supervisor Pukrop seconded. The motion passed 3-0. Discussion/Action on appointing a town representative to the County’s Committee for zoning updates: Following discussion, Chairman King motioned to appoint Plan Commission Chair Kathy Girolamo as the town representative to the County’s Committee for zoning updates, with Supervisor Dennis Meis as alternate. Supervisor Pukrop seconded. The motion passed 3-0. Discussion/Action on operator licenses: There were no operator license applications at the time of the meeting, so no action was taken. Discussion/Action on changing the start time of the Town Board Meetings: The board discussed moving the monthly meeting time from 6:30 pm to 6:00 pm. Supervisor Meis motioned to change the starting time for town board meetings to 6:00 pm. Supervisor Pukrop seconded. The motion passed 3-0. Discussion on purchasing a riding lawnmower: Chairman King noted the town has been using an employee’s personal riding lawnmower and recommended purchasing one for town use. Town resident Roger Pionek has a used riding lawnmower in good condition available for $400. Discussion on putting the Sterling truck and related equipment for sale: The board discussed advertising the Sterling truck, sander, plow, and wings in the WTA monthly magazine and Truck Paper, likely this fall. They also considered whether to list it with a set price and accept best offers or to put it out for bids. Discussion/Action on tentative approval of the Town of Dewey Municipal Code of Ordinances: Chairman King noted the board has reviewed the town’s updated Municipal Code of Ordinances and held a public hearing. With no further changes, Supervisor Pukrop motioned to tentatively approve the Town of Dewey Municipal Code of Ordinances. Supervisor Meis seconded. The motion passed 3-0. Discussion/Action on Resolution No.2 – 2025, a resolution to authorize the presentation for final adoption of the Town of Dewey Municipal Code of Ordinances and the posting of the Notice regarding the adoption of the Town of Dewey Municipal Code of Ordinances: Chairman King explained a notice must be posted two weeks before the Town Board Meeting to adopt the Municipal Code of Ordinances. Supervisor Meis motioned to approve Resolution No. 2 – 2025, authorizing the presentation for final adoption of the Town of Dewey Municipal Code of Ordinances and the posting of the required notice. Supervisor Pukrop seconded. The motion passed 3-0. Clerk/Treasurer Reports: The board reviewed the Clerk and Treasurer reports for June, noting that the reports balanced. Supervisor Pukrop motioned to accept the Clerk and Treasurer reports as presented. Supervisor Meis seconded. The motion passed 3-0. Chairperson’s Report on town work and activities: Chairman King reported that while Kafka’s granite from the local quarry on Sunset Drive costs more per ton than Worden Enterprises’ granite in Mosinee, the reduced hauling time and lower labor costs make it more cost-effective. The grader’s AC was fixed with a new belt, and the tractor was repaired but has a hydraulic leak. The health and safety plan doesn’t require tracking hazardous material quantities. The Dewey Drive reconstruction survey is planned for fall by Cedar Corporation, with a public meeting proposed. The Wisconsin DNR confirmed that the town is responsible for enforcing the removal of a boat dock from the Public Access parcel. The town attorney has been informed. A Wisconsin DNR culvert permit was obtained for Oakwood Drive. The board discussed a cement slab for storing the higher salt/sand mixture. Correspondence: The board reviewed correspondence. Meeting Dates & Agendas: The next Town Board meetings are scheduled for Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., and Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. Both will be held at the Town of Dewey Town Hall. Approve and Pay Bills: Supervisor Pukrop motioned to approve and pay the bills as presented, with a question regarding the warranty on the compactor purchase. Supervisor Meis seconded. The motion passed 3-0. Adjournment: Chairman King adjourned the meeting at 7:44 p.m.
