Minutes
Tuesday, April 15, 2025 6:30pm
430 Dewey Drive-Stevens Point WI 54482
Roll Call: Chairman Maurice King, Supervisor Dennis Hintz, Supervisor LeRoy Pukrop, Clerk Angela
Lochinger, and Treasurer Lori Kolodziej were present. 6 Town Residents\1 Visitor.
Minutes from the 2024 Annual Meeting: Dennis Meis motioned to approve the April 16, 2024, Annual
Meeting minutes as read by Clerk Lochinger, with an amendment to remove Deer Lane from the list of
roads noted as chip sealed in the 2023–2024 Road Work Projects report, as it was not included in that
project. Supervisor LeRoy Pukrop seconded. The motion passed 11- 0.
Review of 2024 Financial Report: Copies of the 2024 Annual Financial Report were available and
Chairman King highlighted key points. The town’s income exceeded expenses, leaving a higher-than-
expected year-end balance, partly because the new plow truck, expected in 2024, was delivered in 2025,
delaying half the payment. The town set aside $100,000 for road projects and has $108,000 in ARPA
funds, to be split evenly for employee wages in 2025 and 2026.
Fire, Rescue, EMS Annual Report for 2024: Copies of the 2024 Fire, Rescue, EMS Annual Report were
available, and Chief Lepper highlighted key points. The fire department responded to 25 calls and ended
the year with 19 firefighters and 4 auxiliary members. EMS responded to 35 calls with 10 active
members, 5 of whom live in the town. Fundraising grossed over $23,000. Equipment testing was
completed, and both departments were active in community events throughout the year.
Report on town buildings: Chairman King reported that the town buildings are in good condition. Two
entry doors on the town garage were replaced.
Report on town equipment: Chairman King reported that the town received the new snow plow truck,
replacing the Sterling dump truck. The Sterling will be listed for sale, likely in midsummer when demand
for such trucks is higher. No major equipment repairs were needed, only minor ones due to wear and
tear on aging equipment. The 1-ton and Peterbilt both had safety inspections done.
Report on 2024 road work projects and 2025 road work projects: Chairman King reported that in 2024,
the focus was starting the Torun Road reconstruction project, with work including milling blacktop,
hauling road base, and ditching. About 10 culverts were replaced on various roads, and granite lifting
was done on Short Lane, Hollow Lane, and Oriole Lane.
For 2025, the town plans to finish Torun Road’s blacktopping and install additional culverts for better
drainage before paving. The board has set aside $75,000 for chip sealing.
Any other business as allowed by Law: Outgoing Supervisor Dennis Hintz was thanked for his service on
the Town Board and for serving as one of the main snowplow drivers this past winter.
Chairman King gave an update on the Town Ordinance update project, which has been ongoing for over
three years. He hopes to complete it this year.
He also discussed a Health and Safety Plan the board will develop this year, following increased
awareness about workplace safety. A Wisconsin DSPS representative recently presented to Portage
County towns and offers safety audits to improve training and procedures.
Dennis Meis noted that the fire department is always seeking volunteers and that town residency is not
required to join.
Adjournment: Chairman King adjourned the meeting at 7:07 pm.
