2024 Town of Dewey Fire Department Annual Report
Closed 2024 with 19 firefighters on roster [19 in 2023, 20 in 2022] –
Plus 4 Auxiliary members.
25 Fire runs for 2024 [31 in 2023, 26 in 2022]
o 6 Motor vehicle crashes [8 in 2023, 6 in 2022]
o 2 Wildland (grass/brush) fires [0 in 2023, 0 in 2022]
o 9 Mutual-Aid fires [10 in 2023, 8 in 2022]
▪ 9 structure (2 times Stevens Point, 2 times Rosholt, 1 time each
Stockton, Maine, Hull, Plover, Iola [cancelled enroute])
o 1 Structure fire [0 in 2023, 4 in 2022]
o 0 Vehicle fire [2 in 2023, 1 in 2022, 1 in 2021]

No “large” purchases in 2024
Dry hydrant work was higher than normal. Specifically, our hydrants
located on Birch Drive and at the Tiki Bar locations.

Other Events and Special Activities:
Participated with the preparation and execution of 2 structure fire
training burns with Rosholt FD.
Required “compliance testing of equipment” was completed in 2024.
Engine 2 and Tender 1 failed pump testing.
Fundraising and donations grossed over $23,000.00 in 2024.
o Boat races, Sweepstakes, Papa Murphy’s pizza nights,
private donations, DNR grant, Wisconsin Electric Co-op
grant, etc.
Supported and participated in Town/FD “Birthday” celebration
activities.
Received a Proclamation from the Portage County Executive for being
50 years old. We were also recognized by the Stevens Point Brewery
and Firehouse Subs.
This was the 3nd year of participating in the Public Safety Red Kettle
Challenge, raising money for the Salvation Army (both Fire and EMS).
Participated in birthday drive-by parade for a resident who turned 103
years old (both Fire and EMS).

Closed 2024 with 10 members on roster [11 in 2023, 13 in 2022,], 10
actively responding to calls and 5 living within the town [5 lived in the
town in 2023, 5 lived in the town in 2022]. Zero new EMTs in 2024.

6 – Motor Vehicle Crash (8 in 2023, 6 in 2022)
17 – Medical Calls (22 in 2023, 22 in 2022)
Medical – not caused by crash/outside force (more sickness / illness, etc.)
11 – Trauma (5 in 2023, 10 in 2022)
Trauma – caused by outside force (fall, severe cut, etc.) – Technically a
motor vehicle crash is trauma, but we have separated them for years
o 7 of the 11 were falls
1 – Fire Stand-by / Rehab (0 -in 2023, 2 in 2022)
Average response time from time we are dispatched until we arrive on
scene was 8.8 minutes, down from (9.9 minutes in 2023, 8.3 minutes in
2022, 9.4 minutes in 2021 and 11.4 minutes in 2020).

Special activities in 2024 included:
o EMS coverage at World Record Water Ski attempts
o The 2024 Portage County EMS banquet recognized a call
that Dewey had right at the end of 2023.
