This moratorium will simply allow the County to begin and continue discussions of what the County hopes will be an organized approach to potentially allowing these centers, should the need exist. County Board Chairperson Youngs, expressed his appreciation and stated he is not against these types of centers but simply wants to make sure the County is prepared to handle a request. Director Roeder explained that an Iron County resident asked for the topic to be placed on the agenda for further discussion and public comment. Each attendee was afforded the three (3) minute time frame to share their opinions and research. Public attendees were asked to provide name and address and the reasons they are either for or against, changing the current ordinance which prohibits flat roof boathouses. Multiple attendees spoke and shared their concerns WITH the current ordinance and concerns IF the ordinance is overturned to allow flat roof boathouses. Director Roeder stated that a few emails have been received from property owners and lake Associations, expressing their support or concern. These emails were shared with all Committee Members. The committee agreed that the ordinance will remain unchanged and the required “pitched roof” ordinance is in the best interest of the County and further protecting property values and prevention of further issues now and in the future.
