SLMD minutes April 19. 2025 Board members present; Gary Walejko, Josh Daubner, Ted Gallagher, Marilee Pelko, plus members Joan Lehman, Mike Beauchaine, Kevin Miliken, JR Siewart, and Rick Dill. Called to order at 9:01 by Ted Gallagher. Introductions of those in attendance. Josh Daubner read the minutes from Jan meeting and moved to accept, Ted 2nd. Treasurer’s report; Marilee Pelko had to go back and re-balance from the beginning of the fiscal year; the Treasurer’s report based on bank statements - summary shows starting balance of 25,932.51; ending balance - $25,890.77. Ted G. moved to accept and Gary W. 2nd. Goose control - treatment will begin today per Rick Dill on 2 nests. Marilee P gave me the signed permission letters from landowners, which I will scan and give copies to Bill Hutchison. Water testing - Mike Beauchaine did his own testing and collected 4 samples - 1’ deep, and gave presentation and did not find any trace levels of heavy metals in the lake. Lead had the highest finding at 4ppb in the narrows. 15ppb is standard for drinking water. He will do more testing at lower depths and sediment. Carp Weir update - Ted G reports that there has been no contact from Eric Stadig via email. We need to keep trying to get a response. Gary Walejko mentioned that we should not call it a “weir” but a barricade or trap, although it does not trap the carp, just keeps them from passing through. We will request Eric Stadig to come out and survey it. He can contact Gary W directly for more answers to his questions. Bill H mentioned how bad the cattails are in impeding the flow of water at this point. AIS: Ted reviews the plan from Cason for treating Curly Leaf Pondweed in navigable waters (spring treatment) and Eurasian Water Milfoil in dense areas (early summer treatment); We need to confirm with Cason that DNR has approved both treatments and if so, Josh D moved to accept the quotes for both treatments, and Marillee P 2nd. None opposed. SLMD documentation project - we were unable to meet to discuss and organize things in person due to weather or other obligations. Josh D will meet with Marilee P without Ted G and figure this out. June meeting agenda: Marilee will be out of town but will attend via speaker phone. JR will bring a bluetooth speaker to hear better. Will set based on last year’s minutes and our recent business this year. JR brought up investing our extra funds so we can collect interest on our extra monies made from covid grants. Marilee P will research this and we will present options to the membership in June. Also, Mike B will present the water samples finding at the meeting. Kevin Miliken brought up getting results of 2 years of treatment from Cason and mentioned getting a 2nd opinion in the future. Secretary will be up for volunteer/election in June. Open discussion: Rick D brought up how we have recently added the purpose of SLMD notated on recent mailings. We want to increase awareness of our purpose. Gary W asked about water samples to Mike B if we could submit that to DNR. Mike thinks probably not based on EPA equipment being used that Mike’s org doesn’t use. Lot 17 tree was removed by Rob Walejko and the township took care of it’s cost. Town meeting last Thursday - Gary W said that Lake Alpine residents were there having issues with sediment issues there and that we are lucky on SL that we don’t have this issue. Mike B will send spring water samples to Stevens Point. We were unable to sample last year. Mike brought up PFAS testing. We will ask the district on this. Ted moved to adjourn at 10:22. Gary 2nd.
