3. Public Comments, Correspondence, Communications
Kelly Fyfe, the Principal at Lumen Christi School, has requested a School Resource Office (SRO) through the
Ozaukee Sheriff's office. According to the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, the assigned officer must be a current law
enforcement officer.
Because the City of Mequon does not have the budget to fund this position, the request was referred to the Ozaukee
County Sheriff's office. The Mequon Police Department would continue to respond to calls and collaborate with the
Sheriff's Office as needed.
The Sheriff's Office is requesting that the position be established as a full-time position, with a flexible schedule to
accommodate school needs and other operational requirements. The proposed schedule is Monday through Friday,
with the officer spending approximately 20 hours per week at Lumen Christi and 20 hours in Ozaukee County
courtrooms.
Lumen Christi School would fund 50% of the position's budget, with Ozaukee County funding the remaining 50%.

5. Discussion Item
a. 2027 Recommended Budget for Public Safety Committee
Mr. Dzwinel reviewed the budget highlights, for the departments under the Public Safety Committee’s oversight,
including:
Medical Examiner
The increase is projected at under $20,000, representing a 10% rise over 2026. This is due to elevated autopsy
costs due to changes in service providers.
General fund for this department remains healthy.
Clerk of Courts (COC)
Proposed levy of $850,000, reflecting a slight 3% increase. Increases in expenses due to salaries, benefits and
information technology costs.
Anticipation of additional revenue from state funding adjustments.
Sheriff's Department
The levy is approximately $17 million, consuming the majority of the county levy. 80% of the budget is allocated
to personnel for public safety initiatives. Last year's increase in positions remains unfilled.
Vehicles are currently purchased through reserve funds.
Expansion requests, include funding for a school resource officer(Lumen Christi) span of three years, converting
the limited-term drug unit investigator position to a regular deputy position.
