TOWN OF PORT EDWARDS
PUBLIC HEARING FOR CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT MEETING MINUTES
Date: May 13th, 2024
Call to Order: Chairman Randy Moody called the public hearing to order at 6:05p.m. The
pledge of allegiance was recited at the beginning of the other public hearing held tonight. The
hearing proceeded to the next item on the agenda.
Meeting Certification: This meeting has been properly posted (on the Town Hall door) as well
as published on our website to notify the public of date, place, time, and agenda.
Attendance: Chairman Randy Moody, Supervisors Tim Schmidt, Jeff O’Donnell, Treasurer
Kathy Reese, Clerk Michelle Sorenson, and Road Superintendent Adam Lueneburg. There
were also many people present from the public.
Agenda:
Approve the agenda
Present on Campground TBD who has applied for a conditional use permit
Public input
Adjourn
Motion was made by Schmidt and seconded by O’Donnell to approve the agenda. Motion
carried.
Presentation: Neil Heinrich who wants to develop Campground TBD, was present for the
public hearing. Neil passed out three different maps he brought with him. He didn’t have many
copies as he wasn’t expecting there to be so many people present. He stated he owns 31
acres on the north side of County Highway AA and 7 acres on the south side. Neil’s plan is to
build a campground like you see in Minocqua or the Wisconsin Dells areas. He would like to
see it be a destination RV park but he won’t guarantee anything.
Public Input: Concerns were voiced over increased traffic to the area, as well as drops to
neighboring property values. Questions that were asked included where is the office going to
be located, how are the rules going to be enforced and what exactly is supposed to draw
people to this campground? Neil provided the following answers to those questions: the office
will be located across the street at his private residence, if problems arise he will deal with
them, and he is looking for quiet people that will be drawn to the area’s peace and quiet.
Moody reminded everyone that the Town’s ordinances were recently updated as of May 6th
and at that time camper permits were adopted.
Adjourn: Discussions started to get heated and people began talking over one another.
O’Donnell made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:37p.m. and Schmidt seconded. All were
in favor and the motion carried. Moody announced the board would be taking a brief break
before calling the regular monthly meeting to order.
Respectfully submitted,
Michelle Sorenson, Clerk
