1 VILLAGE OF WHITING PLAN COMMISSION MINUTES Village of Whiting Municipal Center 3600 Water Street, Stevens Point WI 54481 Monday, June 1, 2026 – 5:00 p.m. ______________________________________________________________________________ 1. Roll Call. Meeting was called to order by President Bill Taugner at 5:00 p.m. Present were President Bill Taugner, Commissioners Dean Curtis, Kurt Glenzer, Skip Karl, Kurt Lepak, Paul Stroik, Diana Szymkowiak and Clerk/Treasurer Pam Filtz. Also in attendance were some Village residents. 2. Samantha Pavlik, 2616 Locust Street, is requesting to operate a retail business from her home. Ms. Pavlik stated to the Plan Commission that she will have a finished garage for plants and an aquarium. All parking would be in the driveway. Ms. Pavlik also explained customers will be seen by appointment only and at one at a time as this is a website-based business. Store hours will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Discussion continued from the Commission regarding signage and getting the proper permits, discussion of hours of operation, location of the business on the property and adjacent property owners. Motion by Commissioner Paul Stroik, seconded by Commissioner Dean Curtis to recommend approval of the Conditional Use Permit requested and forward it to the Village Board for Public Hearing with the following conditions: Store hours Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10 am to 8 pm. Motion carried by unanimously by voice vote. 3. Discussion ensued as to whether Plan Commission approval is necessary for the erection of signs in the commercial district. Commissioner Skip Karl recommended that approval for a sign would not have to come before the Plan Commission since it has already been approved by the building inspector. The consensus was to have President Taugner discuss with the Building Inspector that they are to handle the sign permits without having it brought to the Plan Commission unless there are special circumstances. 4. There being no further business, motion by Commissioner Stroik and seconded by Commissioner Curtis to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote. Meeting adjourned at 5:43 p.m.
