Smart Growth Committee — Minutes

Town of Christiana Smart Growth Committee Minutes Meeting Date: June 1, 2026 Location: Christiana Town Hall Call to Order Committee Chair Dawn Redford began the meeting at 7:03 p.m. Other committee members in attendance included Trent Bettenhausen, Tom Jelinek, Lisa Juday, and Catherine Gottsacker. David Smithback was absent. Confirmation of Meeting Posting Notice of the meeting was properly posted at the Town Hall door and on the Town of Christiana website. Public Comment Margit Ohrn expressed concern about the traffic and dust (due to solar array construction). Approval of Minutes A motion to approve the April minutes was made by Tom Jelinek and seconded by Lisa Juday. All were in favor of approval. Town of Christiana Comprehensive Plan Survey Update Survey Results Survey results were accepted starting on April 15 with the last response received on May 16, 2026. There were 160 respondents; responses from the paper copies were transposed as written by Dawn and added to the digital responses. With 17% of eligible respondents completing the survey, this was considered a low response rate. The committee reviewed all of the survey results and noted the need for more discussion about splits when we get to rewriting the plan. We will also need to clarify the meaning of terms such as commercial, industrial, and traditional. June Meeting The next Smart Growth Committee meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on June 29, 2026, to discuss the following: the introduction, how to write up sections related to renewable energy and data centers. Cathy will look into the history of the Town of Christiana. Adjournment The meeting adjourned around 8:00 p.m.
