Current Fee: New Fee:
Grave Plot: $650 $1300
Columbarium $900 $1500
Grave Locating/Marking $50 $100
Erickson reported that the Village's cemetery fees have not been reviewed or increased in several
years and should be evaluated on a regular basis. He recommended increasing cemetery plot fees
due to the time and resources required for ongoing cemetery maintenance. He noted that the plot
fee is a one-time purchase fee and does not include ongoing maintenance fees. Responsibility for
the maintenance and upkeep of individual graves with the Village. Board members requested
information on the number of cemetery plots remaining. It was also suggested exploring the
addition of a mausoleum wall or similar columbarium structure as a potential source of additional
revenue to help offset maintenance costs. The current cemetery plot fee is $650, and an increase to
$1,300 is being considered. The Village may also issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) to evaluate
the cost of contracting cemetery maintenance services.
Motion by Martinez, second by Lindorfer to re-evaluate the fees potentially by December of

Erickson noted that we did have a kickoff on the CORP (Comprehensive Outdoor Rec Plan) and

sessions at the Community Building before the survey closes. Tentatively the CORP should be
done by the end of December.

carried unanimously.
f. PLAN COMMISSION (Beil). Erickson reported that the Commission met on June 8 and
conducted a site visit at the proposed community garden location, 409 State Street. The site visit
was well attended by neighboring residents, and the Commission received positive feedback.
Erickson stated there appeared to be positive general consensus regarding the proposed location,
with a few modifications to be considered. No action was taken at the June 8 meeting. The
proposed community garden, the four-plex development, and the Walter Crossing Townhomes are
scheduled for consideration at the Commission's June 15 meeting.

k. DANE IOWA WASTEWATER COMMISSION (Erickson). Erickson reported that he was
appointed President of the Commission. Erickson also reported that Dane Iowa is submitting a
permit application to the railroad for use of the railroad right-of-way for the waterline. The
required paperwork was signed on June 9. Erickson explained that Dane Iowa conducts an annual
wastewater cost reconciliation ("true-up") for the municipalities participating in its wastewater
treatment facility. The reconciliation is completed in May or June by Town & Country
Engineering, which performs the necessary calculations. The purpose of the true-up is to minimize
any year-end balance owed by participating communities. Based on the current reconciliation, the
Village is expected to receive approximately $53,000, compared to approximately $86,000
received last year. The reimbursement will be deposited into the Village's sewer cash fund.
l. DISTRICT ONE EMS (Forseth). Forseth reported that she was unable to attend the district
meeting on May 14 due to illness. During that meeting, she was elected Vice President. Forseth
also reported that, according to Cam, all open positions have been filled. Erickson reported that
following the most recent Village Board meeting and the District One meeting, which included a
closed session, he was notified on Friday that District One had accepted an offer on the lot next to
District One, with closing anticipated around July 13. Financial details were not yet available and
are expected to be discussed at the District One meeting on June 18 at 7:30 p.m. Erickson further
noted that District One was not informed of the potential long-term impacts to the Village,
including the loss of future tax revenue. He stated that, at a previous meeting, the Village indicated
it would be willing to contribute toward the purchase if the prior offer did not proceed. He also
noted that the Village was not represented during the District One closed session when the offer
was discussed.
Announcements. Volkman noted that the Partisan Primary Election is scheduled for August 11. Absentee ballots
for voters with calendar-year requests were required to be mailed by Tuesday, June 30, after receiving all necessary
election materials from the County by June 29. She also noted that the ballot is lengthy and may be difficult to
navigate, and voters will be encouraged to use the ExpressVote system.
Erickson recognized and thanked all Village employees for their dedication and hard work. He acknowledged that
staff have been working many additional hours to keep up with the Village's needs and complete essential projects.
With numerous tasks requiring attention, the Village is prioritizing areas that have been neglected in the past. One
example is installing wood chips around playground equipment to meet required safety surfacing standards, which
had not been consistently maintained historically. Erickson noted that this is just one of many areas throughout the
Village that are receiving much-needed attention and improvements.
Motion by Martinez, second by Marx to adjourn. Motion carried unanimously.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:38pm
