Five residents from the Town of Pleasant Springs attended the meeting. None of them lived on the lake. Supervisor Olson stated all the lake residents already know about the phosphorus reduction program. There was a lack of interest due to the same presentation several times. One of items discussed was the possibility of a leaf district program, but he needs to gather more information. At this time, he would like to table this agenda item to the next Town Board meeting. Supervisor Schuck stated this meeting was set up to fail. She stated the town does not have a Facebook account, it was only posted to the website (and our towns posting board) they had a banner which the colors were given to her and did not stand out, along with the letters were small, she was not allowed to put an article in the newspaper, or send out a ma iling to residents. A discussion followed. Supervisor Olson stated he needs more information to create a leaf district, what will it cost, how will it be paid for, who will be in the leaf district, etc. Supervisor Gouaux stated the water quality of Lake Kegonsa is a complex issue. A majority of its pollutants, including phosphorus, came from upriver. Working collaboratively with the Town of Dunn and FOLKS to collect fall leaves is a small way our township would contribute to improving its water quality. She appreciates and thanks the residents for preparing their statements. She wants to continue the positive collaboration with the Town of Dunn. Chair Green stated this program went on for the past eight years, and about 1% of the leaves were picked up by the vacuum truck, and wondered if it was worth it. Sup. Olson stated that 1lb of phosphorus reduction reduces 500 lbs. if algae. A discussion was held regarding the emission pollution of the leaf vacuum truck. Supervisor Schuck stated there could be leaf corals which can be picked up all week long by our Public Works Dept. Sup. Olson stated previously we were stuck to picking up the leaves on weekends, where now it could be handled more often instead of only on weekends. This item was tabled to the next Town Board meeting.
