Behavior Policy of McCoy Public Library Policy Approved by the McCoy Public Library Board of Trustees: May 2023 Expectations of Behavior The McCoy Public Library is a place for everyone, shared by the community, and used by many different people for widely different reasons. Here’s what we expect of our users: • Respect the comfort and safety of fellow library users and library staff. If your behavior is making others unsafe or uncomfortable, we’ll ask you to stop. • To comply with requests from the library staff. If you don’t, we reserve the right to suspend privileges and/or access. • To comply with local, state and federal laws. If you break the law, we may prosecute. If you feel the something or someone is making your experience here uncomfortable or unsafe, please let a staff member know. Violation of these rules is misconduct that can result in expulsion from the library and forfeiture of library privileges. Minor violations of these rules will first result in library staff attempting to educate or warn individuals about the policies before enforcing such policies. If an individual continues to violate these policies, staff will follow the banning policy. However, any conduct that the life or safety of any person or that is damaging to library property, equipment or facilities may result in immediate expulsion from the library premises. Library staff are authorized to contact the Police Department to respond to such situations. Repeat misconduct or severe offenses (even a single isolated event) may result in individuals being banned from the library from a day to a year or indefinitely. Staff will follow the established Banning Procedures. Staff will call the police for severe or illegal behavior or if an individual refuses to leave when asked by staff to do so. Behavior Policy will be reviewed by the library board and library staff at least but not limited to every 3 years. Next scheduled review: 2026
