1. Chief ’s Report – Chief Peters gave the committee a brief update about the Police Department.
2. Golf Carts and Low Speed Vehicles on City Streets Discussion – The committee along with Chief Peters
and Administrator Mansfield discussed allowing golf carts and low speed vehicles on City Streets. The
committee is in favor of adopting an ordinance to allow both of these modes of transportation on
Amery ’s streets where allowed by state law. The committee felt the city should license golf carts since
they are not licensed by the state , and the licensing period should be 5 years with stickers as proof of
license. The committee also felt there should be some form of insurance requirement and
lighting/ slow moving vehicle indication . The vehicles would not be allowed to travel at night. Golf carts
that cross County Rd F at the designated golf course crossing would not need to be licensed.
Motion by Bottolfson; seconded by Van Someren to recommend that Administrator Mansfield prepare an
ordinance to present to Council and include the items discussed.
3. E-bikes and Scooters Discussion – The committee along with Chief Peters and Administrator Mansfield
discussed the policing of E-bikes and scooters in Amery. The State of Wisconsin already has
classifications and laws in place for E-bikes. The state also has laws regarding E-scooters. The
committee felt the state statues covered the City, but the committee felt the City should put a helmet
law in place for riders under the age of 16.
Motion by Van Someren; seconded by Bottolfson to recommend the Amery Police Department follow state
statue for enforcement of E-bike and scooter regulations and that Administrator Mansfield work to create a
helmet ordinance for children under the age of 16 to be adopted by the City Council.
